THE MEANING OF CALLANT
The Scots dictionary states that the word 'callant' simply means ' a young man or lad of the town'.
Though the Callants Club is entirely a male organisation not all members will fall into the category of being 'young men'. Nor is it that all members were born in the town, many of our members have worn the club badge with pride having come to live in Peebles from outwith the Royal and Ancient Burgh.
